Helpful tips: how to revive tired silk flowers

So this week end we went to an amazing wedding, so when trying to decide what I should wear I went through my box of silk flowers to see what I could add to my hair do on the day. Except my flowers looked like they need some TLC! I am a planner so no detail goes untouched (excuse the flying hair it was so windy!!)

Years ago my granny (on seeing that I loved wearing flowers in my hair!) shared with me a little tip on how to revive silk flowers so that they look fresh and perfect for your hair-do - and especially so that you don't look like you have been traveling on a cramped bus for hours!!  It's a simple little trick that they used to do as young ladies in the 40's and later in the 50's and 60's (has flower wearing ever gone out of style? ok, maybe in the disco 80's..!!) read below as told to me by my Gran...

Married in Purple!

So today I finally got to see some pics from the wedding that I recently did all the hair accessories for. WOW! So great to see a bride brave enough to break tradition!

The Bride didn't want a veil, so we used a little of the lace from her dress in her fascinator which worked well and was very pretty and soft. The theme was "bling" so there was lots of sparkles!

Miss Happ Bandana photoshoot

Last week Thursday I got together with my awesome model Nadine aka Miss Doll Vuis to shoot our new Miss Happ bandanas.

The wearing of a bandana has actually been around for well over 200 years in many guises, but the way the Rockabilly girls wear them it can really be pinpointed to the working ladies from the 40's and 50's (also known as the land girls or bomb girls), with the most famous one being Rosie the Rivetor.

Oh yes! And by the way, the word bandanna or bandana is from the Hindi word: बन्धन bandhana, which means "to tie"!

Wedding fascinators by Miss Happ

I had to make fascinators for a great client this week. The bride is getting married in purple - so much fun! 

The colours were teal, turquoise and purple - so unconventional, but so inspirational to work with! I had a piece of the lace from the brides dress with some of the beadwork that they asked me to incorporate, which I only added into the main Brides fascinator. The theme is "bling" hence the use of all the diamante finishings.

As soon as the wedding is over I will post more pics but for now he's a sneaky pic..or two...
