Miss Happ does Dusty Rebels Festival in Pretoria

The Miss Happ team made the journey upcountry to attend the 1st Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells do pretoria and we had a fantastic time. Finally we could put many a name to a face, and also met some really cool new peeps.

The day was a buzz of activity with so much going on, but our own Miss Mandy managed to fit in the delightfully cute little Hannah, and before she knew it she was sporting a perfectly pinup hair-do complete with a hair flower she wanted..with a little help of Suavecita and some hair spray they were A for away!

Our local Cape Town pinup gal, The Little Harlequin was also with us upcountry and was our Suavecito lady for the day and she looked AWESOME!

A big Thank you to the festival organizers, Zigi and Maria from Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells - Rockabilly, and our Miss Happ team, Mr Murray, Miss Mandy and Little.Harlequin. A shout out to Black Tulip for the loan on his Hot rod too ♥

And finally, a huge Thank You to all our Jozi & Pretoria customers that popped by our stall at the Festival on Sat! We can't wait to see you in our neck of the woods in Cape Town at the next Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells - Rockabilly Festival on the 14th of November!!

What is Rockabilly style?

I get asked this often. "So what is this that you are doing?", "Why skulls?", "What's with the tattoos?" here goes..these are purely my a nutshell :)

Rockabilly has it true roots in the rock n’ roll culture of the 50’s, but today girls and guys around the world have taken it to a new level. The look is edgy with strong tattoo influences and is very visible within the alternative community. Many a Rockabilly guy and girl is tattooed which only highlights their need to be an individual - it's a way to stand out from the crowd and is very reminiscent of the rebellious attitudes of icons from the era such as James Dean, Elvis Prestly and the notorious Bettie Page amoung others..

What is pin up style?

Although the lines are not definite , there are a few little details to take note of here when looking at the pinup style....

For the Pin up style girls often revert back to vintage patterns to produce garments that are known as “vintage reproductions” circa 1950 as in our Miss Happ Vintage Dress (below), which was on original Vogue pattern from 1954.

Many girls who dress in the pin up style will go as far as wearing beautiful retro seamed stockings with suspenders and glamourous vintage inspired lingerie as seen at online at What Katie Did together with perfectly coiffed Hair and beautifully applied make up.

Compared to the rockabilly girls who have a very noticeable rebellious look about them with their tattooed bodies and bright hair, pin up girls have a softer, more feminine look,…
